FR1 VS FR2 VS FR3 VS FR4

FR1 is the same as FR2. Compared to FR2 with a TG below 105, FR1 has a higher TG of 130. Some laminate manufacturers that produce FR1 may not produce FR2 because the cost and usage are similar, and both are cost-effective.
FR3 is also basically FR2. However, it uses epoxy resin adhesive instead of phenolic resin.
FR4 (FR = Flame Retardant) is a glass fiber epoxy laminate. It is the most commonly used PCB material,1.60 mm (0.062 inches). FR4 uses eight layers of glass fiber material. The maximum ambient temperature is 120-130℃, depending on the thickness.
In China, FR4 is the most widely used PCB base material, followed by FR1 and then FR2. However, FR1 and FR2 are typically applied for 1-layer PCBs because they are not beneficial for through holes. FR3 is not recommended for building multi-layer PCBs. FR4 is the best choice. FR4 is widely used because it can make single-layer to multi-layer PCBs. Using only FR4, PCB companies can manufacture a variety of PCBs, which makes management and quality control more easily, and ultimately reduces costs!
